II. Choosing a House
We ask that you take your appearance into account foremost when choosing a major or banner to play in. Each of these houses has distinct physical traits that define them, and if you choose to be a part of a certain house, we require you to fit that house’s physical profile. Of course, marriage between houses would bring new traits into the family, and some would dominate others. A general rule of thumb is that darker is usually stronger than light; black hair is a more dominant trait than blonde, brown eyes more dominant than blue, etc.
Also keep in mind that the lighter the features are, the colder the climate that house lives in. For example, House Caemire's capital is furthest North, where the climate is cold and inhospitable for the majority of the year. House Osbryn is seated to the South, though unlike House Beringar and Somberhall, who also hail from warmer, temperate and tropical climates, respectively, House Osbryn's capital, Southmere, sits at the edge of a desert.
Personality is not so important in choosing a house. All houses will present themselves to you in a similar manner; as it is beneficial for them to display themselves as honorable, helpful entities. We don't believe in having house-specific personalities; we'd like all of our houses to exhibit multiple facets of personality. Think of it this way: your family is not chosen, but your allies are. You may not enjoy your house members IC (we're all pretty friendly OOCly), and that's fine! Betrayal exists within families, so get to scheming.
If you must factor personality into the equation of house choosing, think about the climate, and what sort of culture that climate breeds. You'll likely share a few world views with the people who also grew up in that area. For example, cities located on the coast, like Ulrich, would be influenced by that. Trade would be bountiful, diet would consist of mostly things that come from the sea, and the cities livelihood would revolve around the docks and their imported and exported goods. A city like Southmere, that sits at the edge of a desert, would function very differently than a city like Ulrich, and thus would produce people with different world views.
